Point of difference
For the love and passion of wineIn our world Domaine reaches to the roots of the French term wine estate and the origin of the word Asmara comes from Hennies native country Indonesia, meaning love and passion. It was my childhood dream to have a vineyard. At the age of 12, I made fruit wines from various berries, some collected from the wild (blackberries) and some from our own garden (gooseberries, strawberries, red current, black current). This was great fun, but what was missing was a vineyard to grow grapes and make the real thing. We evaluated various wine growing regions within Australia and found our new place of belonging, the Heathocte wine region. The terroir here is ideally suited for elegant Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, something we were looking for.Once we purchased the vineyard, the idea of having a cellar door came up and then the idea of having a bistro was born. It just fell into place like it was always meant to happenVoted in the top 10 new wineries in Australia by James Halliday in the 2011 Australian Wine Companion.
