An afternoon of wandering between cheese, chocolate and conversation with chefs and other well-known Bendigo foodies? Yes please…
Here in Bendigo and Heathcote, we offer the ultimate paddock to plate experience. Our restaurateurs, chefs and farmers have embraced the term “Food Fossicking” to encourage locals and visitors to discover all they can about the farms, families and faces behind the best dishes and produce our region has to offer.
Owner of Masons, a Chef’s Hat recipient, and president of Food Fossickers, Sonia Anthony, is excited about the level of co-operation the concept provides. “We’re envied by other regions for our strength in working together. Collaborations between producers and businesses, for example, are unearthing world class produce available right at our doorstep. There’s something really special about eeting those people who grow your food.”
But if you’d rather leave the planning to someone else, Sonia’s recommendation of starting with the walking (and eating!) Food Fossickers tour is a wonderful introduction to it all. It’s the perfect example of the deliciously intertwined nature of Bendigo’s dining culture.
Sonia is also the president of Food Fossickers. The Food Fossickers network connects those who are passionate about the important role food plays in a healthy functioning society. Its purpose is to promote local producers, the concept of reducing food miles and to share the stories of those who play a part in putting local food on local plates.
