Castlemaine
Renowned for the arts, Castlemaine is a relaxed place with a sophisticated feel in a stately 19th century setting. Once one of the world’s richest shallow alluvial goldfields; the town is now abuzz with vibrant cafés, eclectic shops, historic homes, gracious gardens and art galleries.
Maldon
This quaint old goldmining town was the first town to be declared ‘notable’ by the National Trust of Australia in 1966. The 19th century streetscape features old weatherboard homes, solid stone buildings and charming old shopfronts. A historic steam train links Maldon to Castlemaine and galleries with fine food, cosy cafés, innovative shops and antique shops line the streets.
