Bendigo has long paved the way in the style stakes from boutiques to big-name stores and shopping precincts to cool-as laneways.
Russian immigrant Sidney Myer opened the first Myer department store here in 1900. National brand Jimmy Possum furniture also started life in Bendigo.
Owners Margot and Alan Spalding started the business in 1995. Today, their lush View Street store is an attraction in its own right. Margot says it’s important for them to have a local presence. “Because we are a national brand visitors know us and seek out the store when they are in Bendigo,” she says.
