‘Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze;
He turned away the good old horse that served him many days;
He dressed himself in cycling clothes, resplendent to be seen;
He hurried off to town and bought a new machine
~ Banjo Patterson
This great Banjo Patterson poem was the inspiration for the Mulga Bill Bicycle Trail. The trail explores the mining history, natural attractions and present day of Eaglehawk.
Mulga Bill, of Banjo Patterson’s poem Mulga Bill's Bicycle, hailed from Eaglehawk, so it’s fitting to name a cycling track after him. The short trail offers spectacular views, and links Eaglehawk to the Lightning Hill lookout, passing by Lake Neangor, central Eaglehawk and a large area of forest to the north that is part of the Whipstick sector of the Greater Bendigo National Park.
