An Award Winning Attraction
Bendigo Tramways is the winner of this year's RACV Victorian Tourism Heritage and Cultural Tourism Award. RAAVC Victorian Tourism Awards have been recognising outstanding achievement in the state's tourism sector for 30 years. There is a range of unique trams that you can experience through the city, whether it be on board the blues music tram to illustrating with an artist.
The Blues Tram
This monthly event combines two of Bendigo’s best attractions - its historic trams and sublime music talent. Fans can enjoy a relaxed drink on the tram, while leisurely rolling through the streets of the city as some of the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival’s finest talent performs, up close and personal.
Heritage Trams
Be delighted by the grand architecture of Bendigo as your restored heritage tram tells you about the city’s golden past. You can hop-on and off at any of the following stops: Central Deborah Gold Mine; Alexandra Fountain, Central Bendigo; The Bendigo Tramways Depot & Workshop; Bendigo Joss House Temple; Lake Weeroona.
Jimmy Possum Tram
Jimmy Possum is a national furniture brand based in Bendigo and is known for its bold colours and extraordinary fabrics. The Jimmy Possum Tram features its orange and black branding colours. The interior features plush seating with bold orange geometric colours based on upholstery used in the London Underground from the 1920s to the 1940s.
The Scaller Studio Tram (Art Series Hotel)
Passengers on Bendigo’s talking tram No. 880 will be able to make art for themselves while rocking and rolling along. The namesake artist for Bendigo’s Art Series hotel, Mark Schaller, has splashed his talent around the vintage tram in keeping with themes that will grace the walls of The Schaller Studio hotel in Barnard Street. Schaller has covered the tram ceiling with swirls of pink and cardamom yellow acrylic in a postmodern nod to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel he’s dubbed “the Sistine tram.”
Tramways Depot and Workshop Tour
You will be in awe at Australia’s oldest operating Tram Depot as you are taken on a guided tour, dwarfed by the many trams which live here, each with their own story to tell. See first-hand the craftsmanship and techniques that are involved in restoring each tram to its former glory and find out more about the unique characters of the Tramways.
