Our family owned and operated boutique cellar door is nestled within our working winery. Powered only by the sun, our Estate is 100% off-grid, with full sustainability practices for the changing climate. We specialise in growing and creating award winning wines with personality and style with grapes grown from our 51 acres of dry-grown vineyards on the Cambrian rock of the Mount Camel Ranges. Experience a unique sit down wine tasting with a diverse range of over 12 wines in our flight (all made on site) including 100% straight grape varietal wines - Tempranillo, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier and with five different clones of Shiraz we certainly produce a diverse range of Shiraz wine to suite all medium to heavy body Shiraz wine lovers - including our MONSTER SHIRAZ. Red blends, including a GSM and GST are amongst our favorite wines as well as a late harvest Viognier wine. There is always a wine for every palate, every budget, every occassion. Come and enjoy our friendly hospitality, a wine, and learn how we make our wines within our barrel room.

Description

Situated on a 250 acre property with 51 acres of dry-grown vineyards on the north, south, east and western slopes of the Mount Camel Range, Silver Spoon Estate is the largest dry-grown vineyard in the Heathcote Wine Region. Named after the now abandoned Silver Mine on the eastern hillside, this property has a colourful past from the gold mining era, as well as some amazing Aboriginal history on the Estate too.

Peter Young (winemaker and joint owner), completed his Masters of Wine Technology and Viticulture from Melbourne Univisity in 2012, enabling us to utilise these papers to creating what we are today. The vines date back to planting in 2000, and 2009 and have developed without irrigation, which encourages deep root penetration. We produce our wines using traditional techniques of hand picking, hand pruning and very low chemical intervention.

Every year we have a small groups of wine enthusiasts making a barrel of wine with us through our My First Crush program "Be a winemaker for a season". These six sessions over 18 months enable our wine enthusiast to make a barrel of wine with us and enjoy the labour of their love with one dozen bottles of Shiraz wine they have made at competion.

So there is always something interesting to learn, drink, enjoy or just "Be" and take in the beautiful vistas of our stunning Estate and all it has to offer. Directions

From Heathcote town drive north on the Northern Highway (B75) and drive 10.7km.
Turn right onto Heathcote-Rochester Road (C347)
Drive 5km to Cellar door - follow the tourism signage.

From Bendigo - 40 minutes
Take McIvor Highway (B280) - drive 20km.
Turn left at Toolleen-Axedale Road, and follow roads towards Toolleen Hotel.
Drive past Toolleen Hotel east, over Chinaman's Bend until reach T intersection.
Turn right onto Heathcote-Rochester Road, where we are 8km on right hand side of road.
