Now an outer suburb of Bendigo located about 8km from the CBD, Eaglehawk was once a thriving borough of 40,000.
Many buildings and relics from the past are still intact including the grand Town Hall (pictured) – now the Star Cinema, the Courthouse - now a museum, the original gaol – known as the old log-lock up, the Municipal Offices and the Bank of Victoria.
Canterbury Gardens were developed on a 35 acre allotment in the 1870s alongside the Eaglehawk Creek.
A stroll around the Eaglehawk city centre will delight any history buff, offering an impressive array of historically significant buildings.
Eaglehawk is home to the Dahlia and Arts festival each March – for more information visit www.dahlia.bendigo.net.au
