Bendigo personal trainer, fitness columnist and mum-of-three Amy Holmes says “health and fitness is integral to the Bendigo lifestyle, and it’s something visitors can experience too”.
She says the best places to get active are at ‘the big three.’ Rosalind Park, Lake Weeroona and Kennington Reservoir.
“They’re all stunning and they offer pathways perfect for running, riding or walking,” Amy says. Amy’s personal favourite is the annual Bendigo Bank Fun Run, ‘it’s an active family day out. The run is a mini city tour, past stunning architecture and reserves.’ If you’re holidaying with kids, take them cycling at Crusoe Reservoir. “The three-kilometre path is perfect to navigate with children.”
And, not forgetting the canine companions… “Our animals love to be active too, and the Crook Street dog park is ever-popular with pets!”
Cycling and Walking Trails
An interconnected network of walking paths and bike tracks weave through the bush. Explore the Goldfield track and Bendigo Creek Trail.
Early pioneer Andrew O’Keefe has been recognised for his part in the establishment of railway lines in the region. A linear trail called The O’Keefe Rail Trail.
Botanical Beauty
Enjoy the splendour of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens. Soon after the gold rush began, those wanting to replicate life back in England set about the establishment of these formally designed gardens. Many historic plantings remain, as does the display of native fauna.
Welcoming Water
Nearby Lake Eppalock was constructed in the 1960s as a water catchment for irrigation, and now awaits for fishing, waterskiing, boating and swimming.
