Kept secure for many years for Defence purposes, the Villa will once again allow the public in to tour this magnificent home.

One of Australia’s wealthiest mining magnates, George Lansell made his wealth from the New Chum reef and built his mansion on the top of it.


Learn the history of the villa and it's original owner, George Lansell. Guests will be treated to local food and wine while surrounded by rich Bendigo History and the beautiful architecture of the Villa itself.

Entry includes an indulgent array of local produce, wine and craft beer. Be entertained by classical music followed by an extensive tour of the Villa and its surrounds. Duration is approximately 3 hours.

2020 Dates;
June 27th & 28th, July 25th & 26th, August 29th & 30th, September 19th & 20th, October 24th & 25th, November 28th & 29th, December 12th & 13th.

Ticket prices: Adult - $90 | Pensioners - $80 please select concession ticket type.

Enjoy an extensive and informative tour of the beautiful and historic Fortuna Villa with owner Paul Banks. The tour will run for over an hour and the Fortuna café and gift shop will be open after the tour for purchases.

Tours operate each Wednesday from September 16 until 30th September.

Please note due to the property still under restoration there is no disabled access. The tour will include steps and uneven surfaces so please wear appropriate footwear.

From the Calder Highway (Melbourne) turn left into Oak Street (at Caltex Service Station) and travel 1km up the hill. Turn right into Chum Street, keep driving until you reach the roundabout, take the second exit, our entrance is the next driveway on the left.. From the North (Midland Highway) travel through the centre of town past the Alexander Fountain and turn right into Don Street (Beechworth Bakery on the corner). At the next set of traffic lights turn left into Barnard Street. Barnard Street continues into Chum Street. We are located on the right side across from Bendigo Day Surgery.

If you notify the Bendigo Visitor Centre of a cancellation more than 7 days prior to your tour date an alternative tour can be arranged subject to availability.
