Description
Brick by Brick: 10 years of building Bendigo
The Living Arts Space is proud to present Brick by Brick: 10 years of building Bendigo, a new exhibition celebrating a decade of creativity by the Bendigo LEGO® User Group.
Sandy will greet you at the front door with a warm welcome. He is the big brother of Bendigo LEGO® User Group’s mascot Doug. Sandy stands pride of place at a height of 2.8meters, towering over the Bendigo builds. He is made of over 65,000 bricks and not a drop of glue in sight to hold him together.
The Bendigo LEGO® User Group was founded in 2014 and has been hosting its annual Brick Show in Bendigo since 2016. This event attracts builders and enthusiasts from all over Australia. The group covers the Central Victoria region, expanding to more than 100 members. At monthly meetings, members collaborate, create, and bring new ideas to life.
Members have long been inspired by the historic architecture of Bendigo’s city centre and surrounding landscapes. This strong connection with Bendigo inspired six members of the Bendigo LEGO® User Group to recreate the heritage buildings of Bendigo and its surrounding landscapes. The exhibition showcases over 10 builds that were created by group members Darren Hutchesson, Michael Peebles, Dale Harris, Michael Piggott, Brent Toma & Kara Harris. The buildings featured in the exhibition include the Sandhurst Public Offices, also known as the Old Post Office building, as well as its sister building the former Bendigo Law Courts, Central Deborah Gold Mine, Capital Theatre and many more.
Explore and admire Bendigo’s historic architecture all in one exhibition. Be inspired to create something of your own or just immerse yourself in the exhibition, learn funs facts about the builds and admire the amazing work in front of you. After visiting the exhibition take a stroll through the streets of Bendigo and see if you can find these stunning landmarks in real life.
