This wonderful event celebrates Hungarian culture, in honour of Buda patriarch and noted colonial silversmith, Ernest Leviny. Ernest came to the Castlemaine goldfields from Hungary, via Paris and London, developing the home and garden that he lovingly called "Buda" after the present day Budapest. Here he brought up his 10 children, embracing the new country and all it had to offer, while proudly honouring his heritage.
The days activities will start at 12pm, with traditional Hungarian food available to purchase and free performances throughout the grounds of Buda. Experience a slice of European culture while enjoying the stunning heritage house and gardens of Buda.
A minibus will transport visitors to Buda from the Castlemaine train station at 11.30am and 12pm, and will return them to the station in the afternoon.
Wine and beer will also be available to purchase on the day, as well as snacks for the kids. Entry is by a gold coin donation. Bring a chair or a rug and sit under the trees to enjoy the festivities running from 12 to 4pm.
